Dr. Seuss is one of the most influential children's authors of all time. Through his mastery of wordplay and rhyme, he inspired the imaginations of millions of young readers, probably including most of you reading this right now.
Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents. In the process, he helped millions of children learn to read.
While Theodor Geisel died on September 24, 1991, Dr. Seuss lives on, inspiring generations of children of all ages to explore the joys of reading.
Pack Horse Librarians needed to be readers themselves in order to advise their readers and bring to them books that were useful and/or of interest to them. Arkansas State Library staff have created associated reading lists foryour summer reading. For If All Arkansas Read the Same Book, see especially "Fiction and Literature in Cussy Mary Carter's Bag"; "Reading the Great Depression"; and "If All Arkansas Reads - Over 20 Years". In this mission, you will read and review books related to the time period and to the If All Arkansas Read the Same Book program.
Readers on Cussy Mary's book route shared recipes in various ways. You will find examples of "Authentic Recipes from the Pack Horse Librarians" in the companion booklet (recipes begin at approximately page 27) for the novel. Read and peruse the recipes and make a recipe that interests you.
Books open doors to many places! Even though we are limited this year to travel, we may take a virtual field trips to see animals, parks, museums, outer space, geography, and history! Don't forget to mark each activity as completed once you've explored.
